Hey i have a 33G and i was wondering if i it would me ok to put some peatmoss under the flourite?? And Can i just have this or should it be combined with half sand??

Yes you can add a 'dusting' of peat under your substrate but that will effect
your PH a bit what is your ultimate goal ?

Take a look at the "Mineralized Top Soil Substrate" thread here in this forum
it's good information for similar results.

Yes also soak the peat for 24 hours and then test the water. Mine initially put a little ammonia in the water. You have to make sure the peat doesn't enter your water column or you will have major algae probs.

What do you mean by water column? and my ultimate goal is to have a very healthy planted take, high tech with some fish and shrimp.

"Water column" is the open water in the tank.

I have a thin layer of peat underneath the flourite in my 90gal and IMO it works just fine.

"Thin" is definitely the key word, though- you want to be able to see through the peat to the bottom of the tank.

What is your motivation for adding the peat?

You can use 100% Flourite, but you can also mix it. I mix Flourite with SMS. I wouldn't recommend mixing with something like pea gravel...that'll just dilute the effects. If mixing, I'd mix with another mineralized substrate.
