Pearl Gourami stocking

I have a standard 36" long 65 gallon tank, with the current occupants being 4 Odessa Barbs, 5 Lemon Tetra, and about 3-4 otocinclus catfish. I want to add some Pearl Gourami to the mix:

How many should I get? I have read that they like it best if they are in a small group, not just one lone fish. But, I also read that only one male per tank can make it. And, multiple females can have problems. My inclination is to add 4 of them, preferably one male, 3 female. How does that sound?

I have 3 F and 2 M in my 65g. I personally like odd numbers. Pearls are very peacefully, as far as gourami go, and having more then one male makes their coloration stronger.

Beautiful fish, looks best in a darker / black water tank.

I've had up to 4 male gourami's in my 75g without any problems.
Encouraging news! Thank you. I was concerned about a slaughter occurring, even though they are peaceful fish.
My 75g tank has 1 male and 2 females and they've always acted wonderfully.
I think I will go for 4 Pearl Gourami in my 65 gallon tank, only because the store gives a price break for purchases of 2. And, their stock looks extremely good!

Sounds good, hope they like their new home. I love my Pearls, a nice simple majestic fish for the tank. Back when I only had my 29g, and was a much less informed and able hobbyist I tried blue and red? ones from Petco 3 different times I think. Every time the pair died, and it usually didn't take to long. Got the 75g tank after I knew a lot more, ordered the 3 Pearls from WetSpot, and they have thrived in there ever since. Was very relieved for that.
Great fish. I have a pair in my 42g doing good since November.

In a 65g I would go for 1M 2F or 2M 3-4F. The males are more colorful and long finned. Recently even my female has started looking better than 4 months ago.

The male can get aggressive at feeding time even to the other tankmates as he wants all food to himself. The female is really totally peaceful, never harms anyone, eats all kinds of food. The male is very picky about his food, wont eat pellets at all, even high quality ones. He loves live food.
I've never noticed any Pearl getting aggressive at feeding time. They'll run after food, but not after other fish. That's what the Angelfish is for. What tiny fish brain doesn't seem to realize is, that if he spends 2 seconds chasing away 1 fish, that's 2 seconds that 15 other fish are having an all you can eat buffet!
Very peaceful fish, I've got a pair in my 40 and have always been looking for more, unfortunately my LFS doesn't often carry them. I'm a huge fan of them overall, definitely my favorite gourami. They do swim up to my hand and bump it during feeding time, its very neat seeing fish as "friendly" as these.
I got 3M3F in my 75, no issues. Sometimes I notice little nicks on them but nothing serious ever. When fully grown, definitely one of my favorite fish.

My Angelfish does that as well!
