I'm in the process of converting my saltwater Red Sea C-250 to a planted tank. While there are always many reasons to do such a thing, my primary one was that I was raised on freshwater tanks and I want my kids to have the same experience.
When I was little in our 3 bedroom house, there was one room for my mom and dad, one room for my sister and I to share, and one room for my Dad's fish. He loved freshwater fish and I want to pass along that tradition to my kids.
For the last 3 years I had a saltwater tank, but I had always told myself I would set up a separate tank for freshwater when my kids were 3. Well, they are 3 now and it turns out twin 3 year old twin boys don't leave a lot of time for maintaining two tanks. So, after more emotional soul searching than one would think, I decided the saltwater has to go and the freshwater is going to be built.
@DaveK has been a constant source of support for me as I built my saltwater tank and he recommended I follow this forum as well.
I know almost nothing about planted tanks. My experience with freshwater was many years ago as a kid with sunken treasure chests and divers as decorations. So, I don't even know what kinds of plants exist, let alone what I want.
Right now, I've got my tank set up and I am cycling it...meaning I have water and substrate sitting in an otherwise empty tank because I'm not quite sure what to do next.
I need to work through minor issues like how I want to aquascape it, what fish I want, what plants do I get and how do I keep them alive, what filtration I'm going to use, what is CO2 injection and is it good, and many, many other things.
So, I expect to learn a lot by reading this forum.
Anyway, good to be here and I'm already learning a lot vicariously through all of you! I welcome any and all opinions.

, what are your scape plans? I do recommend pressurized co2 (and fertilizers), as well as possibly a good Canister filter. Which kind is ultimately up to you and the reviews lol! Remember though, here's my tip: Do as much research as possibly on something you want, and make sure you will like it for years to come.
