BRStv Investigates: Which PAR meter is the best? - Bulk Reef Supply
Fascinating... esp "the error"...
seems like you really dont get much for an xtra $2500 lol
Seneye is a pretty good deal overall.
Still some will beat it down.
obviously better is better.....but there comes a point where your ROI needs to be given serious consideration in lolBRStv Investigates: Which PAR meter is the best? - Bulk Reef Supply

I've been debating the purchase for a few months now... I think I might just go the same route you did after seeing this and considering the other functions you mentioned.Awesome. Glad I got the Seneye. Since 12" offset is max I can go anyway it is perfect for my needs.

based on this video/test.... in your opinion would it be fair to say the two cheaper options are 'good enough' for most of us ?
Guess I need to ask a bit more direct.. Did you account for the sensors "immersion effect". According to Li-Cor Under water measurements need to be multiplied by 1.32 approx.. As far as I know it may just be a switch on the data logger..but you don't mention it at all. Just need verification.
The Li-Cor has settings for both and does the math for you : )
Wasn't a "coincidence" at all...LOL.. The software wasn't applying the correction AT ALL..Thanks for responding.. Just seemed odd that at 3" so much PAR was lost.. To add to that if one takes the 412 measurement in water, multiply it by 1.32 you get the in air measurement.. or close..544 vs 563 in air (7:44min mark) 659 x 1.32 = 870.. in air measurement is 849 Odd coincidence I guess.
8:28..."All the historical underwater data needs to be multiplied by 1.32.."
Yes...
BTW: The point about the error is the fact that Li-Cor for, apparently years, had a "glitch" in their underwater measurements..

TURNS out it wasn't...

Haha, all your info in that pic just sold me on it. That will be my next investment for sureYou will not be disappointed. I really like it and is one of if not the best investments for my planted tank.
To give you an idea I get all kinds of information almost real time(don't mind the amonia red), also light sensor is hidden now since I already got all my par readings I wanted. My eyes can only guess so much. I also like how it shows the temperature flucuations. Will be getting an inline heater which will make that temp line a lot straighter. Check my par readings I did here. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/1...24-7-planted-par-lux-kelvin-pur-readings.html

The only two things that can make it not as attractive is you needing a laptop always connected to it or have to purchase the separate "web server". I happen to have a spare laptop that I haven't needed till now so it was the perfect use. Second is if you do want it for say monitoring the PH and NH3 you have to replace the test strip every 30 days. A pack of 3 will set you back $30, and comes with just one. So roughly $10 a month. I do not plan on using the PH and NH3 after the 30 days as I will have my use out of it by then(dialing in my co2). But those are not downs for me but may be for some.Haha, all your info in that pic just sold me on it. That will be my next investment for sure
I've got most of my tanks dialed in just based off observing growth and pearling (maybe not the way I should do it, but seems to work). It would just be cool to see a numerical value that goes with my observations so I can replicate my lighting for my next tank. Ok... that and the fact that I'm always swapping leds in/out of my heatsink experimenting with new things (and often strange ideas...lol).
Thx!
