Hello I'm ready to work on my refugium project.. I have a 72 gallon bowfront and I'm going to set up a gallon 20 refugium.. However the part I'm confuse is the ratio between the box and pump. I know a refugium should have a slow flow rate. I was thinking of getting a CPR box 90 rated for 600gph with a drain pipe of 1 1/4, and a mag 7 return pump rated for 700gph with head loss 480 gph at 4'.
The refugium will consist of subtrate, slow flow plants , and bio balls..

Would this be enough for my tank or should I bump it up a bit ???

Should what be enough? You want a slower flow through your refugium right? Not sure what you're looking to do. You could always slow down the flow by reducing the flow output from the pump, you just need to make sure that whatever flow you decide on can be handled by your box, but with that head, without any modifications, I would think the box is adequate, but I always add a valve to control the flow of my pump.

Don't reef keepers partition off part of the sump and have some but not all the flow going through that?

Yeah I'm looking for a slow flow on mine.. Nothing crazy.. I want to make sure the nitrates get processed in my refugium .. How about the pipping on.. Do u thinks its good size .. Thanks for u time and comments .. Everything helps

Im actually using it for my discus tank.. I won't have a reactor, just a filter media type deal.. I heard it helps with phosphate levels and water changes

I would think thats fine, but I would def add a valve to control flow. I actually added 2 outlets from the pump, one to the main tank, and one back to the refugium from the pump. Supposedly that helps lessen the wear and tear on the pump.
