Overfed Fish

I was at my LFS today and picked up frozen brine shrimp.

I gave a block of it to my fish, and they devoured it. Now all the fish have swollen bellies and aren't swimming too fast.. just kinda hanging out on the top of the tank. Reminds me of what happens after the family has a big thanksgiving day feast.

(mostly guppies, glow light tetras, neon tetras, and a few harliquen rasboras)

The neon tetra's are the most swollen, followed by the guppies, glow lights, then rasboras.

When they eat so much in 1 feeding, is this bad for them? I normally feed flake food once a day. I've never seen the fish get so excited about food. It was a feeding frenzy as the shrimp block was falling apart in the water.

Yeah, you don't need to feed the whole block. Take a knife and shave off small amounts until you have enough. Drop the rest back in the freezer. It can cause lots of health problems if continued regularly. I'd probably make tomorrow a fasting day.
Nah I wouldn't worry about it, the same thing happens to my neons when i drop in a sinking wafer for the shrimp. The neons eat most of it and the shrimp get the leftovoers. They'll be more active in a couple hours and by morning they'll look normal again.

I cut a cube in half, let it sit in a bowl with room temperature water. When it is thawed out, I rinse it in tap water in a fish net and then toss into the tank. I usually do this once a week. They get flake food and freezed dried daphnia on other days.
thaw it out and spot feed with a little baster. that way you can control how much they eat
The reason I say to fast tomorrow is to avoid constipation. It's rough on the fish, just like it is humans. They won't suffer any harm to go without food for a day, and it's an easy way to have some insurance that they suffer no ill effects from a big Thanksgiving dinner lol.
