The same thing has been happening with my Otos Westbrook. I'll wake up and see them forming the "U" shape you're talking about around the fat Oto. I haven't seen any eggs or anything yet, but at first I thought it was breeding behavior. From what I understand though, Otos haven't been bred in captivity. I could be wrong though, don't quote me on that.
