Anyone?

Or how about goat / horse food (alfafa hay pellets)?

I'm getting some. 50lbs seems killer though.

Barley straw pellets can be better (and cheaper). Search eBay for organic barley straw pellets
not sure how those would hold up underwater?

This is what I use.

About $12 from my local Big Al's.
barley straw and most straw basically explodes under water which is one of the reasons why it should be used sparingly.
They dissolve into mush in a minute or two. Useful property for making appetizing pumpkin-flavored mush for a finicky bunny. I have no idea what shrimp will think.
Was curious since I saw some german shrimpkeepers feed bunny pellets over @ shrimpnow
I don't think the goat/rabbit food would work since they put copper into those feeds. They put certain levels of copper for livestock feeds due to different livestock needing different amounts of it for liver function. Horse feeds have lower levels cuz horses don't really need it.

Another thing, sorry used to work in a toxicology vet lab, the alfalfa pellets should be fine, but we have had instances of blister beetles in alfalfa feed that has cantharadin in it which is a blistering agent, don't know if it would affect shrimp or not. It probably doesn't have any in it but sometimes from like local feed stores and such they would.

.
False. Horse feeds do often have lower levels than necessary for horses but it is a much needed vitamin for horses (promotes hoof growth, prevents skin conditions, hair conditions, etc). Goats and sheep are what copper is toxic too, not horses.

True!! Or, very nearly true. Copper can be toxic to horses, but it has to be in much greater amounts. Goats and especially sheep are sensitive to very low levels of copper.

Um, I forgot. What does this have to do with shrimp again??? :)

Copper is not a vitamin and copper is more toxic to sheep than goats but we are off topic. Sorry was just trying to get across that there are trace metals and heavy metals found in certain animal feeds.
Its also very easy for a sheep to die from copper. I know... I have like 7 sheep and 21 goats.

If I were you, I would just use oak leaves for feeding your shrimp and some spinach and spend the $10 on food that will last you a long time anyways.
