orbit fan replacement

Is there some trick to getting the bottom screws into a replacement fan?

It took me an hour and lots of profanity to get the screws into the bottom slots on the fan (I finally stuck scotch tape on my finger and the washer (then nut) and then, after multiple attempts, was able to slip it over the screw. I've got several of these lights, so it's just a matter of time before I have to go through this again.

There's got to be a smarter way to do this.

I unscrewed the side of the fixture and pulled off the "capped" end...It's a Custom Sea Life fixture, but according to the manuals, it's designed the same way.
That makes a lot of sense--I guess I'm having one of my can't-see-outside-the-box days. I wish I'd asked sooner--a couple of extra screws would have been much less frustrating.

Thanks!
