Does anyone out there have any experience with the orbit 24 hour lighting system? I purchased one recently for my 55 gallon tank and I'm looking for any feedback anyone has on it. I got the one below for my tank.

Current USA Orbit Lighting (36" Kit 192 watts)
1x96W Dual Daylight + 1x96W Dual Actinic / 3 Lunar Light
Dimensions: 36.75" x 8.25" x 4.5", config E

Thanks in advance for any comments...

if you already bought one, why would you need feedback? :icon_conf

anyway, I have two 2x65w 24" Orbits, and am very satisfied.
of course, I replaced the blue bulb with all white color bulbs.

next time, do a forum search on the word Orbit
and you'll find lot's of discussion on this model.
it's a christmas present and i haven't used it yet. you could say it was picked for me so that's why i was looking for some feedback...just curious.

looks like it was a good choice, thanks for the info.

Whether it's ideal for you depends entirely on your intentions with the tank. One bulb would suffice in a non CO2 55gl with easier, low light tolerant plants and then some. Both bulbs, actinic changed to a daylight bulb around 6700k as Spypet mentioned, would be considered high tech over your tank, plant growth and uptake would be unnaturally fast and would appreciate added CO2 injection and ferts.

Most 55g aquariums are 48" long. Is your 55g aquarium 48" long? If it is, you ....

I have 2 of the Orbits and I like them very well.
it's a 55 gallon but the light i have now is a 36". it wasn't clear if the light was supposed to hang over the sides or rest on top. i don't think the length really matters as most tanks i see have lights shorter than the length of the tank. the tank with have pressurized co2 shortly; i wanted to do the light and the co2 at the same time. i will start adding ferts at that time too.
It's not a huge issue if you plan on hanging the fixture as a pendant, resting on a hood or glass versa-top, or mounting it into a canopy somehow, but if you want to rest it on the tank with mounting legs then you need a 48" striplight. The only other issue you'll have with a short striplight is possible dark spots on the ends of the tank. Most tanks here have a striplight that matches the length of the tank, or a retrofit kit inside a canopy.

If you plan on doing everything at the same time, just make sure there are tons of stem plants in the tank first, algae farming isn't a very rewarding aspect of the hobby.
here I used a 5/8" acrylic square rod to fit my 24" Orbit on a 30" tank;

oooh i understand your concerns now. my tank is acrylic and has a sealed top. the 36" will go beyond the cut outs in the top and rest on either side on the solid surface. the tank is heavily planted right now and i'm hoping the co2 will get rid of the small brown algae problem i currently have.
