I have a low tech 75 gallon with a Finnex 24/7 running in 24/7 mode. I'm finding that it might be a bit too much light as I'm getting a lot of hair algae. I do like the 24/7 mode and would like to keep it.

I was thinking about laying some kind of semi opaque film on top of the glass top to help lower the lighting intensity. Has anyone else done this? If so, what did you use?

Window screen from the hardware store is recommended to diffuse light.

That would likely work.

You could lift/raise the light higher. I haven't had that light, but doesn't the remote allow you to change the intensity of the light?
As touch of sky mentioned, people have used door/window screen (the "netting" to keep out bugs).
Some have even taped over some of the LEDs to reduce some light output.

You could also use floating plants.

I just use painters tape over some of the LEDs. Just put some strips right over the glass of the fixture itself.
