Ive had these 5 amano "like" shrimp for over a year and a half. One of my very large pregnant females died and I am wondering if it was of old age. I found her body next to a nylon stock full of peat that I keep in the tank to soften the water if that helps.

Look for more dead bodies. If it was only her, then it may be just of old age.

Just do a water change just in case. Check your nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia.

Are your shrimp showing signs of stress? Do they seem to want to get out of the water?

Considering how long you had the shrimp, and assuming it was an adult when you got it, that's about an average life span for many shrimp species.
