Odor

unless something is rotting in the tank there should be little to no odor. I would find the source of the smell and eliminate it. aka rotting fish, too much food, dead plant matter etc. sometimes ample water changes will solve the problem. I wouldnt run carbon in your planted tank as it will reduce nutrients your plants need.
