Larger tank requires a new journal lol.
I am in the process of retiring my 40b aquarium, and planning the next big thing which will be a 75gal. full of fun!
I recently got the nod from my wife to upgrade to a 75 gal. aquarium all hinging on a Christmas bonus this year. (keeping my fingers crossed)
If for some reason the bonus does not pull through, It will just take longer to get things going.
my last couple larger tanks were all more of a progression. Fish moved from the previous tank to the new tank, plants made the move as well as all the internals. This tank is going to be a fresh start, all new fish, all new equipment all new new new lol.
I am choosing to go with my beloved Rainbow fish, but it will not be only be stocked with bows. I plan to add a couple other fish from the same area of the world to round out an interesting tank.
More details to come, but here is my plans so far.
The bows that I will add will not be from the LFS's. They will only be sourced from a known lineage IE can be traced back to the collection point or the collector IE Gary Lange etc. That way I can ensure I have the purest of bows in the tank which just show better than any of the mass bred Florida fish. having gotten my first taste of these superior fish with my m.nigrans and the one boesmani I have I want more!!!
I am going to attempt to ONLY have fish that originate from that particular quadrant of the world, the Oceania areas consisting of Australia, Papua new Guinea, the Philippines etc. I have a pretty good idea of the bows I want to keep, but availability and sourcing them might be a bit of a challenge, so things may change as I move forward.
I have been wanting to keep a pair of empire gudgeons (hypseleotris compressa) for some time, so they will probably be on the very short list for the tank as well.
The one thing I am having a hard time finding is a bottom dwelling fish that would work in a tank such as this. I cannot go with any crustacean as they would be a tasty snack for just about every other living thing in the tank. I am open for ideas.
I really don't care where the plants come from though lol. I have a few favorites which will find a spot in the tank, and a few I have not attempted to grow yet.
This will be fun!
Stay tuned for the next update, which will consist of my planned equipment.
