Hi again. Still working out the planning of my 40 long tank (48"x12"x16"), and totally new to planted aquariums (but have saltwater/corals and pond experience). Wondering how many plants people generally start out with. I was thinking 16 plants would be about right. What are your opinions -- is this enough?:help:

I use as many fast growing plants as I can fit in. Once the tank is cycled and settles down then I start switching the initial plants for the ones I actully want in the tank.

Good plants to start with would be any Hygrophilias, Water Sprite, Pennywort, Rotalas, Limnophilas and, I'm sure, many others.

I kept mostly Crypts. I'll do the initial planting with my Crypts then use as much rapid growth rate floaters as I can to get going. I prefer Hornwort or Water Lettuce. Once my Crypts are filling in I start to reduce the floaters

Anubias Sp. would be similar due to growth rate and light requirements.
