Hi All,
I have been skulking around on DIY Co2 forums for ages now. I want the lush plant life, but I am terribly afraid of gassing my fish and my dear snail, Lewis.
I also did not want my fish to suffer at night as my DIY co2 continued to run. As it is, I plan to run c02 at around half the recommended level (from 1 bubble per every 2 seconds to 1 bubble per every 4 seconds for my 10 gallon, heavily planted tank).
So, I had an idea for how to fully protect the fish at night from the co2. I will simply make a "chimney" that is placed over the co2 diffuser and sticks out of the water - completely outgassing the co2 without it dissolving into the water column. Here is a picture of my current, and very shoddily made, Co2 Chimney posted below. Does anyone see any particular issues with this approach? I am using a citric acid mix using the following diffuser and DIY Co2 Diffuser:
