Nicaragua cichlid... would you risk it?

1300 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  BruceWatts
I'm about to rebuild my tank... i'l be using a soil layer under normal aquarium gravel for my plants.

thing is, i have a nicaraguense... it's a really placid little fish it never digs and gets on fine with my keyhole cichlids...

anyway... should i keep it? the thought of it suddenly making a huge mess by digging up soil scares me a bit.... but it doesn't dig at all right now.... so aybe it'll be alright?

I love it's character so don't know what to do.

It could start to develop digging habits, lol. It is a cichild, I dont have any knowledge of nicaraguense though.

thats what i'm worried about... if the setting changes it could react differently.
Famous last words "maybe it'll be alright" . Big chiclids and planted taks, particularly ones will soil under gravel, are really not that compatible. Sooner or later they will decide to change their environment to suit themselves and then it will be a mess.
