Sounds good to me, then. Betas will appreciate some live plants. Another thing that can be kept with bettas are mystery snails. They are cool little guys 
keep temps in the 78f range, cycle the tank to completion, add some plants and you will have a great home for your betta. If you want, add some Indian almond leaves to make the tank more like the bettas natural habitat

I am figuring out if I want to put dirt in my first tank or not. Waiting for a month would test my patience!
Maybe gravel for the first tank and dirt next time.
