I've noticed these white/clear worm like things under the head of the cherry shrimp. I don't know if they are a parasites, or if they are just part of the cherry shrimps anatomy. Can someone help me? I don't want to salt dip them if it's only a part of its body, but it looks like a parasite to me. Not all of them have it, or it could be a thing that grows out as they get older? Here are pictures I have taken, I've even put black arrows to point out the spot I am talking about.

1) Tank Size - 30 gallons - 9 shrimp
2)Temp - 75F-76F
3)Heavily planted with miniature dwarf hairgrass and ludwigia
4)PH of 7
5) Weekly water changes of 25%
6) I have my lights turned on for 10 hours of the day
7) I put nutrient tabs in the soil and liquid fertilizer
8) I feed them every other day 2 sinking pellets. They eat a lot of algae from the glass and biofilm.

Should I remove the molts from the aquarium for 3 weeks as well? If these are parasites and fall off after the salt dip. I just don't want to remove them because I know they eat them for nutrients.

Doesn't look like vorticella to me. I'd salt dip one like @zoidurg suggested and see if there's any change though. 45 seconds or so should do it. If there's no change after 24 hours, it may just be coloration (or lack thereof).

In all honesty, shrimp probably don't *NEED* their molts. You can certainly remove them and as long as they are getting a varied/balanced diet (whatever that may be...) they'll be fine.

But I would recommend starting with a salt dip and see if anything changes. I don't see a parasite for sure, but I can't say I don't. Shrimp do have little white "hairs" around their nose/rostrum, which is natural. I just can't tell if that is what you are seeing for sure.

I'll see if I can find some examples of what I mean...

I'm sure Chris Lukhaup has some even clearer shots since he has some great macro shots of shrimp!
