Hi, I just set up my new 20 high tonight and I was wondering if I take a filter of one of my tanks that has been running for 5 months and add it to it if I would be able to add fish media in the filter is fully cycled I'm think of putting in fancy guppies to breed them any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Yup you should be just fine putting the already established filter on the new tank. I would add just a handful of gups to begin with and if you have test kits check the water parameters. After about a week you could add more fish.
I like the rocks in your tank. Looks cool.
You could go through a mini cycle even with the established filter. How big is the established filter? If Its designed for your size tank, then you should be ok. Like quiquik said, test your water.
I second the "mini cycle thing"
Lack of nutrients could knock your bacterial colonies down quite a bit.
Tank will need to come to equilibrium w/ all inhabitants
so could get some ammonia/nitrite imbalances..

Keep some Prime around and watch both ammonia and nitrite..

I don't think there is a "guarantee" either way really...
The filter was on a 10 gallon tank and it was rated for 10-20 gallon tanks the bio part has never been messed with except a quick dip in some tank water to clean it and the Mechanical part only got replaced every 4 weeks would it help to take some water from my other 20 that's been up for 6 weeks and has fish in it to put some in the water the new one? I wanna put guppies in it and idk how many to start with I would like 10 but any advice on that would be helpful my local pet store said that guppies are Hardy fish

My water test read
Ph 6.8
Ammonia 0.50
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5.0
I don't understand my ammonia is up to 0.50 considering there is no fish in the tank i'm not for sure that that mess the cycle is starting but I just started it last night any help would be appreciated

Decaying bacteria/plants..
pH is low enough to add some guppies and Prime.

What you are doing is not much different than how I "minicycled" a new 55gal..
Old media, plants, "canaries" (a few guppies). Tank still unbalanced a bit..but worked out w/ no losses to fish.. Plants are another story..

Out of curiosity, what is the pH of the tank the media was removed from, if it is still running. not clear on that.

The ph that the old media came from was the same ph as the new tank
