So this is my first time really looking into sumps and I think I want to ex plant my knowledge and equipment base. I have an extra 40g tank I can use for me 130g main... Dimentions are 35 inches long 12 inches wide and 16 inches deep those are all inside diameters not outside so the outcome I would like to have is to free up my canister filter for other tanks and get a little more DIY on my hands for this sump... Anyone that has a 40g sump I want to see what you've done, dimensions, media, what are must haves, what didn't work what you had to change what NOT to do most importantly LOTS of pictures!!!! Thanks guys!!! This is also what I'm dealing with for space

I believe the dimensions you gave are for a 30L tank instead of a 40B tank.
Not that you can't use the 30L in place of a 40B.
Bit of a curiosity as to how you would get it under there if it were a 40B.

Knotch the middle of 2 compartments and put it in sideways

Pretty sure both tanks I have besides my main are 40b "36x18x16" technical measurements of outside of tank.... I measured inside for sump volumes and divider sizes
