I’m in the process of replacing 4in of gravel in my 75 gal tank. The tank was set up 8 years ago and it has gotten impossible to grow much of anything, despite many water changes, new fertilizers, and different plants. New substrate will be about 2in of coarse sand, 1 to 2mm grain size. I’ve got a few plants to return to the tank once the switch out is complete, jungle val, a few crypts, and a few apos. How soon should I add substrate tabs and liquid fertilizer to the water? I’d like to get some bunch plants and when should I add those? Thanks.

I'm not an expert in this subject, but I've done this several times and never had any problems adding plants / fertilizer right away. To be on the safe side, probably wait 48 hours after adding filter and new water and substrate, but after that you shouldn't have any problems adding plants and fertilizer.

I plant right away. I start with ferts once I'm done cycling/ minicycling. I am pretty sure everyone does it slightly differently. I usually add root tabs the same time I plant.
