New stand!

Guess wont be getting rid of my 125 anytime soon, was out at my parents and found a present! our family friend had dropped off my steel stand!

It still has to be polished and painted, then start attaching the wood veneer or depending on cost maybe plexiglass who knows.

I will need to get it somewhere flat so I can check levelness etc either way there will be a 1/2 board of polystyrene foam with a board of marine plywood on top of that to ensure the tank balances itself no stress points etc.

Also found a super nice piece of driftwood.... Sigh... Yet another rescape.

The wife has shut down my other project for building a rimless tank.... For now....

Yea its standard steel lol been exposed to the elements will be taking a grinder / steel brush wheel to clean it up and then paint no worries lol

You wouldn't happen to be in the military would you?

When I was designing my Metal stand I ran across a neat idea. There's a guy in Ca. that starts with a frame like yours. He attaches what are basically cabinet door magnets to the frame. Then wood panels can be attached we the magnets. This gives you easy access to a sump/equipment ny simply removing a panel. depending on how you cut your panels you could have a smooth sided stand without doors yet rather easy access when you need it.

Loved the idea...Never tried it, I simply powder coated mine. :hihi:
Stay away from marine plywood. You don't need it.

This is what I plan to do with mine. I was going to build a wall under my stairs and build the tank into it before I came up with this idea. Steel frame and drywall panels with magnets. It'll look just like a real wall, but will be easily removable for maintenance.
Thats a great idea! I was thinking that or make it look like wood slats that would pull back like an accordion door kind of thing!

Any particular reason to stay away from the marine plywood?

That is a great idea!
Considered a stand like Mr. Saltwater Tank has?

It's a false front with two sides on it that just slides away from the stand when you need to get at your goodies.

No doors or anything necessary and it gives you full access to everything under the tank as easily as you'd have access with doors.
Have to check that out, that was the whole reason for getting a metal stand was to get more room under the stand, bigger sump tank, be able to my 20# co2 tank under there etc

The magnet idea is great. Could easily do a less spendy version with some rare earth magnets and MDF.

Though, it may just be cheaper to do a false front/wrap around and nicer wood. Could even put tiny casters on it so slides better.
Dang thats a lot of rust.
Hey, in all seriousness, make sure when you grind off the rust that there is still a decent steel structure underneath..
If that rust is too deep it could comprimise the strength of the stand.... And you know what happens to a 125G tank when the stand fails -.-
Here's the company that I mentioned that hads the Magnet idea.

The video shows the concept.

I thinking aluminum for my next stand but will have to place steel mates for the mags if I use panels, kinda like it better without the cover up...like looking at the equipment too much.
On the rust note ITS JUST SURFACE RUST. I bought all the steel new, it was sitting in the back of a truck and got rained on it hasn't been sitting outside for months or anything lol.

Thank you all for your concern ;)

I would leave it open... But between kids and wife thats a no go
