New Shrimp Owner Question

Hi guys,

Just received beautiful fire red and neon yellow shrimps from one of the sellers here...
I did the acclimating procedure... Now they're in the tank
Fed them a piece of food sample given by the seller, the shrimps ate...
Now some of them are swimming around like fish, is this normal?
Others are just staying at the bottom going about handling the substrate...

What are bad signs?

Are you keeping them together? If so they'll interbreed and may revert back to brown--natural colors.

Swimming around frantically when first introduced to a new environment is normal, also may be a sign that they're hungry and hunting for more food. I'd drop another stick in if they ate it all.
BTW I do have some cholla wood in the tank as well...

Yeah Im keeping them together, thought it would give good contrast to my tank... I hope they wont interbreed... lol

I hope they get used to the tank tomorrow...

No i removed someof the food since they were no longer eating, and it was already past an hour...

My oto is swimming frantically as well, he not used to being with other animals...
Yeah, you should separate them, especially if the reds are really actual PFR's (painted fire red). You'll really mess up the color of future shrimp if the yellow and red mix, that is if you want to maintain the two different colors. But the swimming is pretty normal, mine do it all the time and they've been in the tanks for quite a while.

Since they are both neocaridina, they will interbreed and give you a "wild type" color as others have mentioned so I would separate them....it's a splotchy tan color.

They'll settle down in a couple of days. However, some do make it a habit. Many of my shrimps can be seen swimming from time to time.
If a female molted you'll see the males zooming all over trying to find her to breed.
Thanks guys...

Unfortunately I only have one tank as of th moment, and not planning on getting another one since my car seeping all my money... I will just have to let them be together as of now...
I think they wont be breeding yet since they still are very small, and only one red i think is a bit old, and the yellows are still little...
change in tds forces a female molt which usually drives the males into a frenzy. expect berries soon, albeit brown ones.
