Been lurking these forums for a while , figured I'd join . Got my first fish when I was a kid , maybe 1958 or so . Had fish ever since . Figured out how to keep fish and plants alive in High School . Currently I'm running around 25 tanks , had over 60 at one time , but a move some years back brought me back to sanity ….. no space for a dedicated fish room . All too often , on forums ( not necessarily this one , but forums in general) individuals pop up giving opinions and ,in general coming off as all knowing and omnipotent experts on everything, but never present any proof of their experience . Anyway , enough rambling , here's 2(not real good) pix so everyone knows I really have tanks

Nice!
I'm an old timer, but you've got me beat by 10 years. Someday I'll get bold enough to take pictures of my tanks, even though they have vintage colored gravel.
+1 for the old timers...03/04/52
Had a couple of tanks when teenager but lost interest till 4 years ago.
Now lease locked to ten g only. Don't know how they would react if they knew it was two of them either. When I moved in, it was only over that if you paid a pet deposit and so when that day came...when I asked they replied it had been changed and now they didn't allow tanks over ten g at all(must have had an issue/w one).
Oh well...gives me the chance to be creative on a scale I can afford...LOL...
Nice fish room(aria) but your welcomed to do those water changes and I'll do my two.

I go back to '49 , so you ,too , get to feel young and spry. You've got a real small lease lock , never heard of one so small , someone musta got burned big time with a tenant's major tank crash. Actually my water changes aren't bad . I've got heavily planted tanks , a light fish load , covers , and generally just top up for evaporation , doing maybe a 25% change additional every 3 months or so . I like to keep changes down as I keep loads of Crypts , and once they're happy and spreading , I don't care to risk meltdowns .Of course , I also monitor water chemistry every few weeks , if something seems to be going bad , I'll take action . My tanks are so low tech they're almost 'no tech' ….. No C02 , ferts (save for 1 tank that's getting Flourish & Excel as an (unsuccessful) experiment),filtration , just an airstone or bare tubing that dribbles air to create some surface flow , mostly 9w spiral fluorescents for light , floating plants to manage light intensity . Not all plants work with this type of setup , but the nice thing is when stuff goes wrong it does so slowly and you can usually head things off before there's real problems.

That would work well with the Metaframe tanks!
I still have my first tank setup.
Thought I was the last one in the universe with old stainless tanks , still have a 20L set up and a bunch in storage.

I've got them too. Two 55s and still looking for more. If I had the foresight when my aunt shut down her fish farm in 1980 I would have grabbed any she had.

I'm only 27. On one leg.:icon_bigg
Welcome to the forum. It's nice to see older folks that are still involved in the hobby. I'm sure you have seen many changes over the years and years in this hobby. My dad got me involved in the hobby at a very young age when he was breeding fish and it has stuck with me since then. He's in his 70's now and I get a kick out of seeing my dads enthusiasm when he sees my tanks. I know that he still loves the hobby but now lives it through my tanks. I'm forever grateful that he shared the love of his hobby with me when I was very young and I know it makes him feel good to know that something he loved so much was passed on to me.

You are sitting on a goldmine :)

Anyways, welcome to the asylum.
I am some 10 years behind you but catching up quick.

Didn't realize the price of used slate was that high!! Glad to be admitted … I'm a firm believer in the view of Chico Marx ' Everybody knows there's no sanity clause'
welcome to the forum. I understand you've been keeping aquariums for some time now. However if there is one piece of advice I hope you'll take it would be not to brush off the advice of others who have not been in the hobby for nearly as long as you.

We've a lot of talented, educated, experienced, people on this forum.

Excellent advice … I'll take it ! There's some amazing builds here , and some really creative folks . I've got a build planned for the fall and will be picking everyone's brains before I start . Even a dinosaur like me can learn from other's experiences .
