I havent be keeping up on the new lighting since I have had a power compact 24" coralife 54 watt light for the last 5 years. Now the thing is on its last leg so I am wondering what would be the best lighting for a planted fish tank?
Eventually the next step is to build or buy my own Co2 system.

So the two types of lighting systems I have been looking at are the Led systems or building my own retro kit from ah supply that supplies the matters needed for it to be built .
Thanks for any advice.

Hi fishranger,

The AH Supply LED DIY will give you comparable PAR values at the substrate level as the Coralife fixture (with the 26 watt 22" LED lamp more). The good news is the savings, your power consumption will be about half of your Power Compact but the real savings is not having to replace the bulb annually.
