New Fis! Kribs

Won some new fish at the Boston Aquarium Society auction yesterday:

10 Young Pelvicachromis pulchers $3.00
06 Young Scarlet Kribs $8.00

Good deals all around, even won a brand new mighty mite for $20.00
Was weird no one bid on it.
Guess this means I can get my crystal shrimp and maybe try discus in the future.

I've got the pulchers and scarlets mixed in together.
Any idea on the amount of space each adult will need?

They are hanging in a 33 gallon tank.

I would say you are going to have trouble with that many cichlids in that tank for sure. Personally I wouldnt put a pair in anything smaller than a 20g. Be careful with tankmates also--they get a little nasty when they are spawning. This is for the pulcher--Im not familiar with the scarlets--I assume the same is true for them though.

I love my kribs and wish I could have alot more of them.
By scarlet krib, I'm guessing you mean sacrimontis? Behavior is essentially the same as pulcher and as Shane said above they're quite the protective parents when they breed and they breed very easily so this is a problem you will run into. I would also keep the two species seperate because of this. In a 33 gallon you can fit maybe 2 adult pairs but even thats pushing it.
FOr all of them... over 100g... My kribs pair off quick... and breed in just about any water....
I realize I could only have two or (three) pairs maximum in a 33 gallon tank.
They are very small though, about 3/4 of a inch long so I have a few months for the grow out and sexing. The pulchers are showing yellow coloring. I hear there are other color morphs. Should have mentioned the size in my initial post.

They mix well with other tetra/community fish though correct?
Kribs are definitely (in my opinion) the easiest fish to breed. Perhaps that's why they were so cheap in the auction maybe(?). Anyway, years ago I bought a male and kept it in a 20g by itself for a couple weeks and later bought a pretty female at another petstore - I then threw then two of them together and put a half-buried flower pot in the tank and they started spawning like crazy. I literally mean LIKE CRAZY.
I'd divide the tank if you want to try and keep 2 pairs of kribs in that small a space.

Kribs can become pretty aggressive with each other when they start defending spawns. Chances are excellent you'll end up with dead fish.

If they're only 3/4" long now you probably do have at least a few months to upgrade, though.

And as long as there's enough space for other fish to stay well away from their spawns, yes, they're usually OK with schooling fish like tetras.

Avoid anything that is a lower level swimmer--especially catfish type critters. I had to rehome a 6 inch Rainbow Shark and 6 Leopard Corydoras when my Kribensis pair spawned. They are relentless when defending their territory and fry. Tetras and other mid-upper level schools should be fine. I have mine with Harlequin rasboras and a few left over neon tetras and WCMMs.
