New 300g! Need plants!

Hey,

I ordered a 300g a couple weeks ago and is due for delivery in about another week or so. I was planning on using a combination of large flat rocks and plants for the aquascape. I need some suggestions for plants that will remain reletively short (4-8") that will grow between the large rocks. I am looking for something that will spread along and around the rocks, but a lot of the carpeting plants, like HC, are just to small for the effect I am going for. Any suggestions are welcome.

not sure on the lighting you are going to have, this could effect plant selection alot. But a few safe low light plants to put in between rocks and stay 4-8" would be Anubias species, some cryptocorynes, and maybe some needle leaf java ferns. Depending on if your looking for broad fat leafs or skinny ones.
I would tend to agree on a tank that large HC doesnt work that well. Try some dwarf hair grass or some E. Tenellus for a grassy lawn look. Or some Marsilea Minuta or Glosso for a fatter leaf carpet. Also in a tank that large a carpet of larger plants like Bylxa or even smaller crypts might work.
I am trying to create planted tank with carpeting effects. I have planted Eleocharis parvula.

I have ordered this for lighting

Hagen GLO 2x54 watt T5-HO Ballast,
48" Hagen Parabolic Reflector for T5 Bulbs,
Wavepoint 46.5" 54 watt T5-HO Flourescent Bulb

The look I was going for was kind of like a plants breaking through the rocks look, which is why they would need to be a little on the taller side, to push thier way past the rock.

I dont want to put asphalt in the tank, but if you think of an old road left to the elements with grass turning the road into more of a spotted pattern. I had thought of the dwarf hairgrass, but I was thinking something a little more wide leafed. My firend suggested African plants such as Anubias species, java fern, Bulbitus heudeloti, and various crinum bulbs.
Some plants that I have used in the past are

Eleocharis "rubin"
Hygrophila difformis
cryptocoryne willisii

The rubin took about 6 months to start spreading, but when it did, it moved quickly. It probly would have taken over the tank, but the hygro was so thick, it was quickly choking out the other plants. It was very much like a slower version of the blob. The crypto is still just barely creeping along. I like all of them in their own way, but if I could ge the crypto to grow about as fast as the rubin, then I would consider that. I just dont have enough experience to know if there are better plants out there.
what are the diminsions of your tank.. with only a 48'' light fixture the tank either sounds like its tallllll or a cube maybe
I think I would have to second the dwarf sag. By the way RANGERS Lead the Way I spent time with 1st and 2nd.

Thanks for your advice. I will spend a good portion of my day today checking into these plants.:proud:
