Just wanted to share a few pics! I am finally not asking for help with an ID of something in them, so it's progress I think! :hihi:

Specs are:

Standard 10 gallon All Glass tank, and the Hood that came with it 24.99
2 10w Compact flourescent bulbs 4.22 each
Cascade 80 HOB filter 16.00
heater from old tank
tiny pebble type gravel and schultz Aquatic plant soil mixture along the back of tank (behind rocks and driftwood) already had on hand
black coated gravel in front of the wood and rocks 3.99
driftwood and plants from previous 6.6 gallon acrylic tank

So less than 60.00 which is a big change from my 55 gallon moneypit! lol.

I made the switch yesterday, so the plants need a bit of growing out of course, but my daughter is tickled pink with it :) (it's really "her" tank, I just took over the planting etc.) I have my RCS and Dwarf Crays in there until I can set up a tank just for them!

Very nice tank. It will look super when grown in.
looks good, a great example of what one can do with little money.
Looks great! The cray looks sooo cute! :D And are those dwarf sunset platies, or just regular sunset platy fry?

I do think that a 10 gallon is the cheapest to setup, among all the sizes. My 10 gallon was set up on practically no money! (Bought a used 10g for $5, used a bag of Schultz Aquatic soil $7, used two 14W energy saver for ~$0.70 each, dirty cheap DIY CO2, and stuffed with whatever plants I could get my hands on for cheap. If you set your mind to it, you can really go so cheap! Heheh.) I think it's also a really easy size to "stabilize" quickly; much easier to get it in equilibrium than to get my 29 gallon stabilized.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

I do like the 10 gallon size, it's been a breeze so far, and it fits on my kitchen counter, so no stand = less money spent as well! The fish are my daughter's Sunset Coral Dwarf Platies, and about 6 of their first batch of fry, the other two batches have become live food for my Angels...they reproduce way too fast, and my LFS won't take them as they are too common. I think I took about 40 of them out in the last few weeks, yikes. :icon_frow

I'm already planning another one...or two...once we find out if we are moving this summer or not! :)
Nice tank & setup. Do you have CO2 system running?
