Anybody know how long Nerite snails live in a freshwater planted tank? I read on another website that they much prefer high pH; but our heavily planted tanks usually have low pH. Does this shorten their lifespan?

I've had them live for several years. About like any typical fish you'd have.

I did notice that some developed holes in their shells after a year or two. I attributed it to the low pH, but only because that's what I've seen others say on here, nothing scientific.

I have one zebra nerite that I bought back in summer of 2008. It's lived in hard water for most his life but I recently transferred it to a soft water tank and it seems to be doing just fine.
