I have 10 neon tetras in a well planted 30 gallon tank, i was wondering if i added 3 serpaes and 2 glassblodfins tetras if they can all be compatible with one another, i' m more concerned with the serpaes, seeing as they are known to be a littlbe bit more agressive....they won't kill my neon will they???

also i have a pair of amano shrimp, just incase it might affect the outcome of your responses....thanks in advance:help:

also if i was to add a dwarf gpurami to the tank, would it try to eat any of my neon tetras???...and yea i know there is a possibility of my serpaes trying to bite its long fins

I would say just add to the neon school. All tetras are compatible but wont school together so adding 3 serpaes and 2 bloodfins wont make them the happiest of fish. Just stick with the neons if they are doing well and continue to slowly add to their school. The Serpaes do tend to mess with shrimp IME. I had serpaes in a tank with Ghost shrimp(and they are hard to see) and they killed every last one. They were the only fish in the tank as well.

I have never had problems with dwarf gourami eating any of my fish, neons included. Dwarf gourami's are quite peaceful and usually wont attack another fish. I only seen it going after a baby Danio, but what wouldn't. Is there any other fish in the tank besides the Tetras or no?
no so far all that is in my 30 gall, is just 10 neons and 2 amano, with 3 serpea and 2 bloodfins in a 10 gall
They would appreciate the room so if you have them I would just move them in. Usually you want about a minimum of 5 of each. I wouldnt worry to much about the gourami. He will hold his own.
aight i added them in, and so far its all good, they are even schooling with the nons now sometimes =P and there doesn't seem to be any conflict between the fish and the shrimp at all.

The shrimp may be fine since you only have 2 and if its planted the fish wont be able to find the shrimp. Dont count on the schooling to last. Usually when fish are newly added they will school with others to feel secure but eventually will break from the school.
I would certainly not try to mix serpaes with neons. This is very risky in a 30 gallons. I had received report last year from an lfs employee telling me their customer came back to report that he lost all his cardinals to the serpaes in his 20 gallons. I used to have serpaes on my own and they are very aggressive often trimming other fish's fins. Add them only with fish that are able to defend themselves.

Your dwarf gourami will not eat the neons.

I agree with James from Cali, tetras are big time schooling fish and won't be in best condition in less they are in groups of 5+, i would just stay with the neons
ye ai defiantly want to keep them sschooling with each other, and they are starting to break off though, but i dont know its that just because they're getting more comfortable now//// i am going to buy 5 more neons so that i'll have 15 in total.
They also school tightly if they feel they have a need. Dwarf Gourami's or a Betta will work nicely for this approach.
a betta????? wont that just kill my fish....aren't they really agressive???
I had never seen a betta aggressive towards another fish besides other bettas or gourami's. They are no more aggressive than a dwarf gourami IME/O. They just tend to guard a territory and thats it. You can always look for Female bettas and that would solve most aggression problems as well. The Dwarf Gourami would be a great choice as well because they are not aggressive fish.
see i wouldn;t mind buying another colorful fish, as long as it doesn't eat my neons....
Bettas and Dwarf Gourami's do not and wont eat your Neons or your other fish. They are to robust. Unless they were less than an inch then I would worry but I doubt they are. You can add a dwarf gourami or betta, avoid angels.
lol yea i did have a qaurter sized angelfish with my neons at first, it defiantly was a little tense in that tank =P so i had to move him out
Yeh and its not even the first time you add it. Its when It grows that you are going to have problems with losing fish.
okay, now i'm thinking of addign a small ram in to my tank ,not yet sure on which type but will it be okay with my neons and amano shrimp...don't really care about the bloodfins or serpas.....i know rams are known to be pretty peaceful in community tanks...so u tell me?????
Say adios to your shrimp :)

I would still say go for Dwarf Gourami's as they dont bother shrimp(at least not IME). The rams will eat them and its hit or miss with the betta.
Fish vary by individual; it is generally believed that bettas will ignore fish that do not look like them (but are aggressive towards other bettas, guppies, and gouramis), but I have had a betta that liked to bite everything in the tank, so I had to take him out.
