My otos have developed a lazy habit. I have six in this tank and 3 live in each of my 2 shrimp feeding dishes. They never leave, the poo, eat and sleep there. They go as far as the rim of the glass bowl where they lay with fat bellies. Most of the time they just swim circles in the bowl like sharks. Not sure how to stop this without removing the dishes.

I have the same problem with mine at feeding time, they'll thrash around in there kicking up all the debris and defeating the purpose.

mine does the same thing but mine stays by the sponge filter

Mine did that and then one day the moss grew so thick around the feeding dish that he got caught up in it and died.

This was like 3 days ago came home found him tangled in the moss.

Take the dishes away. You do not need them in a shrimp tank since the shrimp will always find the food if you do not overfeed.

That does look like an ideal spot with all that algae
But I believe they're nocturnal?? At least I think mine are. I have a good school of them, but they still choose to sit around all day and move at night, so perhaps they are moving.

They use to move around at night as I have moon lights and they are visible, but now they just camp the dish. I have to wave my hand to clear out the poo in the dish every other day. My BN Pleco's are still really active at night though and rarely go to the dish.

The dishes are gone now. Cold turkey is the only way to quit.
