I like the nitrate test kit from Hach. It is a professional test kit at less than half the price of the Lamotte and it only takes two minutes to get results. Go to "hach.com" and do a search for item #1403700.

Good luck, Bill

PS
Everyone says the Lamotte is a great kit too.

Use any of them to tell you if your fish are going to die presently. It's more important to do the right things and deduce what's happening by the response of your plants and fish than attempt to be analytical. I have a three-year old Tetra nitrate and AP ammonia test kit that sit in a box. Once I got an idea of what my tap water was like before and and after one week in the tank (0, 10 or 20, 40 mg/L for nitrates) and started to focus on doing the right things given my fish load, they are just something use fo giggles e.g. after long power outages. Ultimately, my water changes and EI CONTROL what's in the tank.
