Hello everyone, I have a question that I hope someone will be able to answer pretty quickly. One of my friends has a EBJD and it is only about 3/4" big, but is wanting to get rid of it because he wants different fish I guess. He was going to either kill it or give it to Petsmart for adoption, but I told him I would take it in because that is what I am planning on putting in my 40 gallon long tank. The only problem is that it isn't set up yet and the only other tank I have up and running is my 10 gallon half mooned tank with 2 honey gouramis in it that are about 1 inch that are not aggressive. I do weekly water changes and the temperature is 78-80 degrees. Would this work for a least a month until I can get my 40 gallon tank running and cycled? Any inputs are welcome, just trying to help the fish out so it doesn't die!:grin2:

Young cichlids are much like any young fish. They are just more interested in eating and getting big. So that works out well in these places where we get caught. I often put totally incompatible fish together for the short term. Angelfish with guppies would not normally be my choice but when small it works.
so my plan would be to take the fish, put it where you can and then watch. At some point, maybe months away, the fish will get too big to tolerate a small tank and it will not grow as nice or it will get a mouth big enough to start snacking on his mates. But the key is to watch and meanwhile do what is needed for the day when it doesn't work.
Yeah a half inch fish is ok in a 10 gal for a month, but it being a growing fish, I would make work of starting cycling the new tank now.

Thank you for the response! I figured it would be fine, but just wanted some other inputs so thank you!

Alright, I will get the cycling process started as soon as I can thank you!
Always nice to see somebody looking a bit ahead and doing some of the things to avoid getting in a real pinch. I find it far, far easier to keep the fish healthy than to go through the fight of treating them!
Good luck and enjoy!
