Need macro lens

413 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  UnusualSuspect
I have a Nikon D-80 and I am looking for a decent macro lens and possibly a separate flash. I am mainly wanting to take pictures of shrimp and possibly plants with the macro lens and am not sure what type of one I am looking for. Could someone please explain some of the common stats that show up on macro lenses so I can figure out what I even need? Thanks.

For aquarium shots you want to get any of these three lenses.
1)Nikon 105vr micro
2)Tamron 90mm macro
3)Sigma 105mm macro

As for the flash a SB600 flash would work. SB800 is a bit better but its not necessary. A flash is an absolutely needed with taking shrimp or fish pictures because they move. The flash allows you to shoot at a higher F-stop with a quick shutter speed.
Thanks ianiwane that is exactly what I was looking for.
I have a Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D that does a decent macro. Not the sexiest lens in the Nikon inventory, but I think it's under-rated. And I second the nomination of the SB-600.
