So I'm browsing Craigslist and I see a ton of tanks for sale some crazy prices and some not so bad! A lot are trying to sell all in one packages which I don't want. But I came across a 100g tank with stand and canopy. Looks in pretty good shape of course needs cleaning and a fresh coat of paint but for the most part not bad. I message the guy he wants $300 right off the bat In my head I'm thinking pass but I feel like wheeling and dealing. I ask for what he's willing to budge.. he says he can do $235..in my head I'm still like that seems still a bit much..as for it's been on the site for 26 days and seems like no bitters.. and I feel hopefully I want it at a lower price..I'll post some pictures but what does the experts say on buying the used tank? Also keep in mind that if I do buy it I'm gonna get a LFS to do a reseal..

So thoughts? Good buy or should I pass and keep searching? I want 100g or more but this looks like a nice little set up..so glass lids tank canopy and stand that's it..

in my opinion, its a good by. since most 100g are oven 300$ period. So id say you are saving at least 75$ you could go lower if you waited a tad bit longer, remember the longer the lower but watch out, someone may steal it.

As a comparison my local pets mart is selling a 5 foot 125 with decent stand for $349 with hood/lights.

True very true!! I was looking at that point of view too when it comes to 100g stand canopy setup!! To me the stand and canopy look to be in pretty darn good shape meaning no water damage or leakage issues as in pictures and talking with the person..all could change if I go and see it! I Honestly was thinking to try and get it down to about $175-$200..

I think I know what your talking about..I believe mines selling probably the same one but that we're asking $461

If any thing I was looking to put LED's any ways so the hood/lights would go straight to storage so no use for me..

175 to me is a landslide but hey not saying it isn't possible! negotiation is also a good key here as well lol I'd say he's more likely to sell it at lowest for 200

Also just thought of something not related to the subject but
What if there was a HGTV Flip or Flop, but for fish tanks! lmao

😆 I know if I got it for $175 i would be on a fish tank high hah!! But ya some where any where down by the $200 would be my ideal..as it costs an arm and a leg to set up a whole new tank!! But if any thing I would sell all my old stuff to the LFS if they gave me alright prices..

Hahah I would watch the sh#t out of that show!! New million dollar idea haha!! Maybe it would go to TLC..better then that show Tank..don't get me wrong I watch it from time to time but some of the things they do and say I'm like I wish I could punch you haha

In your OP you said you would have an LFS reseal it. What does it cost to get that done? I would think you'd be approaching the cost of a new tank by the time you pay someone to do that. Maybe it cost a lot less than I think. (that seldom happens!)
Regardless of price, if you are looking to do a planted tank I would keep looking. That tank looks really tall which becomes problematic for lighting and a pain in the rear to reach down into the back areas for planting and maintenance. I personally wouldn't buy anything that I can't reach my hand to the back while standing on the floor. Would make a nice angelfish tank, though...

$60 to get it done i have a friend at a shop...I know a lot of people say to do it my self but I feel it's cheaper in the long run for my time and sanity!

Well if I was to plAnt this tank is put the whole bottom with dsag with Val's or a tall thick stem plant for the back..nothing hard to grow or is demanding of needing crazy bright lights just enough lighting to bright up the tank

When I saw it I liked the lids but obviously not the lights. Sucks that it's so much more where you are.

Oh yeah, that's way cheaper than what I was thinking. I don't blame you for not doing a diy when it's that cheap!
60 bucks for a reseal

Wish I had that friend lol

I wouldn't even know what to do with some thing so narrow!! Lol
Don't buy that! Buy a 125! Always go big because you will eventually want a big tank

Bump: Where is this petsmart 125 gallon for that price??!

big isn't always good if you live in a tiny house like me ;)
lol plus bigger mean more $$$ but that is the OP's deal lol :grin2:
Hahah everyone is making good points haha!! But it's true so very true always nice to go bigger then smaller..as of now I don't own a home and am living in my sister in law house for the time being since I just moved to Texas..I was planning to get a tank put it in my storage unit fix it up or but it pretty much done until I am able to get a house..but now I feel like I should wait it out..I been look at 125 and other mix match tanks that are long instead of tall for the reason of it being easier to clean and do what I need for the tank..I think I just got all hyped up because the lady said she wants a big tank since we're both tank envy of her sister tank..it's a 160 bow but it's a reef tank..oh well at least we're lucky enough to have our planted 40b in the house haha
