Does anyone know if it is allowed to collect a few aquatic plants from the nature in ontario?

Ontario Canada or Ontario California?
(There may be other Ontarios)

In each location, I think there will be regulations such as:
On public land (parks, state or national forests etc) probably not permitted.
On private land is probably OK with permission of the owner.
In CA there are some plants that are prohibited in that you cannot be in possession or move them from place to place. I think Hydrilla is one of these.
For regulations in the USA you can start here. I am sure there is similar information available for Canada.

Thanks for all the help, Diana! Ontario canada. I tried reading the guidlines for here, but seemed vague. I guess it depends on where like in USA.

I think I would do this:
1) Know what plants you are collecting. Do not collect anything that you know can be invasive.
2) Run fast.

I don't think it is a problem. I took plants from the lake where my parents had their cottage to start my outdoor pond. There doesn't seem to be many rules.
