Narrow leaf java fern in high tech tank.

Will this plant be ok out in the open in a high tech tank? I'm looking for some new plants for a couple spots in my 65 gal, and this plant looks interesting. I've never had java fern though, and always hear of it being used in low light set ups. Will higher light levels be fine, or will it melt, die, get algae covered, stunt, etc?

It should be fine if your nutrient and CO2 levels are up to par. You'll obviously get faster growth than in low light. I kept one in a high tech tank for quite a while and I wish I hadn't taken it out. Java ferns are pretty much my favorite plant and I'm starting to introduce them back into my scape. Here's a photo of the one I had.

That really looks nice! I think you just sold me on it.

+1

Java Fern is a lowlight plant, but given sufficent co2/ferts it will grow faster, lushier just like any other plant. Lowlight just means it will live in lowlight.

P.S. Nice tank Jeff5614

This java is under 4 wpg. Looks pretty happy!

That does look really happy. I've never dabbled in java fern because the ones at my LFS's always look brown, rotty, and terrible.
