Name that Plant! (What is this?)

729 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Cardinal Tetra
After losing my plants in a long battle with Cyanobacteria (I eventually won) I recently purchased a plant from PETCO (normally I would avoid their stuff but this plant stood out)
It has long streaks of what appear to by tiny purple flowers at the top. (see attached images)
It was completely submerged in water, not in a plastic container. The stems are bunched together and a clip holds them at the bottom.

What is it? I have seen many plants similar, but not with all these purple flowers. The leaves are much like Moneywort (Brahmi/Bacopa monnieri) or Ground Ivy, but again I have seen none with flowers.

Any help is appreciated. Hope 'yall are enjoying the holidays. Here's an alien: :alien:

plants dont flower like that underwater so whatever it is, if it survives will not have those once it settles in.
Emmersed Rotala rotundifolia. Give it a few weeks and it will take on the form that we are used to seeing.

Bingo
Thanks guys.
I suspected the flowers to be temporary, oh well. As long as it survives I'll be happy.
I wonder if it will turn red, or stay green.
In my tank the bottoms of the leaves turn a pinkish-red and the tops go green. It's a pretty nifty little plant. You can unbend that metal thing on the end and plant each little plant by itself with about an inch on every side. I think you'll be pleased with this little guy.
That is a great looking plant! The flowers are beautiful!

Here is another name that plant if you guys want it. I have two plants in there, one should be easy its common.

Emmersed Rotala rotundifolia for sure
You might want to cut off the flowers. They will simply die and rot away...it might mess with your water.
