Alright,

So i've had my planted tank for a while now and i've put off getting help online for longer then I should have.

I have a 75 gallon tank. I'm currently running 250 HQI lights, and two 96PC the actinic blue or what ever it's called. I'm running co2 and doseing the tank.
I do weekly or bi weekly water changes. I do so many water changes becouse i'm feeding my fish 5+ times a day for growth.

I know, it's alot of light for the tank... but I got an amazing deal.

so here is the problem... I'm not sure how to test my tank to make sure i'm doseing right.. I have all the kits.

I would really like it if somone would just tell me what my lvls should be so that I have something to shoot for, and what I need to change to get there.

The other problem I have is with my filter, I have a fluval 304, and every water change I have to clean it or it won't flow. I'm assuming that if i get my lvls right, that the algee will be reduced. And that will reduce the number of times I have to clean my filter.

Edit: after searching the forum I found some good websites for what I need.

I still have a problem though
I have the API KH and GH test kits, and I lost the instructions. I know I just add drops untill the color changes... but anyone know what color it changes from too? I have problems seeing it.

I can help with the American Pharmaceutical KH and GH test question. The KH is supposed to turn blue after the first drop and then you count all the drops until it turns to yellow. The GH turns orange after the first drop and then you count all the drops until it turns green. I was making a mistake initially with my RO water as I never got a blue or orange color with the first drop (of course they were 0!) so I thought I had to add extra drops until I clearly could see some yellow or green. I learned later from AP that sometimes in cases like RO or very soft water you need to look at the test sample down through the tube with the cap off over some white paper so you can discern pale yellow and greens. When I was doing my samples I was looking through the side of the tube and with real low KH and GH water it is hard to really see much color. I hope that helps!
