Mysterious White Jelly Algae Colonising the CO2 Drop Checker??!

1153 1
I woke up this morning and turned on the lights in my new 20 gallon tank.
It's five days into cycling and everything seems to doing fine. But when I looked over at my Co2 Drop Checker I saw that around the opening had grown a membraneous white, furry film.
Can anyone tell me what it is and white might it be specifically colonising the Co2 Drop Checker?

I can tell you that this stuff isn't anywhere else in the tank, and literally appeared overnight.

When I removed it from the tank, it came away from the drop checker quite easily into the net. It feels like mucus... or more accurately phlegm.

Another think to note, is when I pulled my Co2 Drop checker out it had turned yellow. Which sent alarm bells off. But I hadn't had the Co2 on in the night, and a quick pH test revealed that the water was around 6.8.

What are your thoughts on why all this happened, and what the 'algae' is?
