Yes I've stripped my previous pair before. This tends to stress the male out though. And he will not be so excited about breeding the next time around.

The hard part is keeping the eggs from developing fungus.

Update:

We have adult coloring! I've got 3 males and 4 females. The macs are growing nicely in the 35G Long.

20% RO water changes every week.
I feed Pellets in the AM and a cube of bloodworms in the PM.

I even saw a female do the mating dance the other day. But none of the males are mature enough to know that it was a the wiggle dance of love.

Good eye my friend. He was a little runt baby about the size of a grain of rice that escaped my net when I 1st introduced the Macs to the tank. They never ate him so now he just thinks he's one of them.

They've hit sexual maturity as it would seem. I got home from work today and saw a pair today mate. The female had the recognizable breeding stripes and the male seemed to be swishing a few eggs in his mouth.

They are still in the community tank and very inexperienced so I definitely don't expect any success with this batch. They did manage to chase all the others that came even remotely close away to the other side.

Its wonderful to watch them grow from little babies to such beautiful adults! Yours look fantastic! What is your sex ratio? I myself have three males, one who I just got yesterday and one female. The lady had three lucky guys to choose from. She seems a tad...preoccupied though. If you are successful with them, once the fry get big enough to sell, think of me, I would love to add to my four.

Turns out I have 5 confirmed females, 1 Male and another that has not exhibited it's color yet. I maybe open to trade a male for a female to up my ratio.

I separated out the little runt to the other half of the 40 long and it obviously did not like it. It found the smallest opening and jumped out. =(
