I took these pics right after I was done putting the wood & plants in so the water was a bit cloudy, obviously.

Won some cherry shrimp on Aquabid last night so those will be here soon. I also want to add some black forest & bumble bee shrimp.

Going to add a couple fish, but still have not decided which ones so suggestions are welcome. :proud:

The wood is African rootwood (have a piece for sale since I bought too much), plants consists of Cabomba, Java Fern, moss ball & Anacharis. Added some Eco-Complete substrate to the Fluval shrimp substrate.

Added a Fluval heater.

Is anyone running the carbon insert in their Ebi? Curious as to whether or not that's going to be worth adding or if the foam will suffice.

It's nice. A few suggestions that I think but you can ignore completely:

1. Take out the stones and place in a smaller piece of wood.
2. Grow moss on the wood since you're having shrimp (right?)
3. Cover the foreground with a carpet.
WOW. That is a LOT of substrate.
I haven't tried the carbon inserts for the filter yet, but I have some on the way. I will let you know how they work out.
Hi it's off to a good start. I would agree with timobxsci about removing the stones and adding moss. I would also move the cabomba to the back and make a slope with the substrate.
I like the moss idea. Java moss or something else?

Moss is just driving me nuts! It gets all over everything and is impossible to separate from many of the plants I prefer. Planting it was a huge mistake for me. Just my $0.00000000000000000000002

I like the moss idea. I use just moss in my fluval edge tank and am really happy with it. You don't plant it but rather find ways to make it work for you. Tie it to your driftwood or rocks, or make a carpet with it using plastic screening or whatever. Then cut it like hair. It's very easy to maintain. get some shrimp and you're in business.

Pics?
I made a journal of the moss in my edge. click on the link below that says "fluval edge" in my signature.
The Java Fern & Cabomba are growing at a rapid pace thanks to the eco-complete. Cabomba is now at the water line.

Added some RCS, 3 Cardinal Tetras, 3 Cherry Barbs & a couple more plants this weekend. Was tempted to buy a couple red crystal shrimp @ the LFS, but at $9 each, I'll see how the RCS do w/the fish first.

I added a dwarf gourami & some sunkist shrimp yesterday. Unfortunately, the gourami proceeded to eat at least 1 of my RCS so I gave him away. I'm going to add a couple more cardinal tetras & perhaps a cory & call it a day outside of more shrimp.

The carbon inserts for the EBI filter work fine. You just remove the smaller sponge from the large compartment and the little cartridge fits right in.
