My first planted all out tank

This is my 50 gallon tank. 48 inches long, 12.5 inches wide and 20 inches tall . I was going to go with all black substrate and all black background but decided to have a little fun first. I may eventually change the backgound to black once i get my plants together and have them grown tall. I started my tank on Feb. 22 2014 and this is my very first attempt of a planted aquarium. I used to have a 29 gal with white sand and had a sword or two but this 50... :icon_wink Lets just say that i spent a large portion of my income tax. I'm pretty sad at how small and premature a lot of my plants were when i ordered them online. Some were fair and I wanted to created a dutch tank but eventually wanted larger rocks and driftwood. I learned a lot from January 2014 til now. Especially off of ADU's, Dustin's and Joey's channel just to name a few favorite. I was more inspired by Mr. ADU than other youtube aquarists as he is very concrete and informative in his videos. Nothing but pure direct information linking to or resolving issues. I've only started researching countless hours this year and literally spent January researching about fish and plants. I bought my tank brand new and hooked it up on Jan. 22 so i would really call Feb. 22 the start of my tank since I'm sure that my tank have completed it's nitrate cycle. For co2 i have a paintball set up and tweak it on when I'm home and found it to be more than enough as i don't leave it on all the time. The one thing that i really enjoy the most about this hobby is planting in the plants and seeing the growth of it after melting. My layout (driftwood, ying stones and leveling) right now will not change anytime soon because this is what i forsaw before setting it up. I want to see how it will look like at it's best first before rearranging or removing stuff. Stay tuned as i will update when i propagate and get my tank more green.

I found this plant in my local river and the water just barely started to warm up and I never found this plant in the winter so I plucked me out some. They are about 3 weeks old and still surviving. I hope that they can carpet that whole section. Anyone may know what it is? Sorry for asking moderator.
This sword was labeled as assorted sword. I wish I knew the actual name. Also the red cherry shrimps base. Lastly a thick hand full size of glosso trimming. I'm waiting for them to grow roots while floating before filling up the glosso carpet more.
I got all the plants that I want now. Its time to let nature do its thing :icon_bigg Might add a few more plants if I see some that I may desire.

It's some species of pennywort. I have some growing emersed in my paludarium and it's a great and hardy plant. Apparently, depending on the species, it is a great carpet plant even for low-tech tanks.

Nice start! It'll be interesting to see how the tank evolves as the plants get more established. What's your stocking plan? I see a few inhabitants already.
Thank you. My stocking list? Don't really know if I made really good decisions but I believe that it is already fully stocked with juveniles. 2 turquoise blue rainbows, 8 SAE atrilime, 12 Celestial pearl Danio, 12 red cherry shrimp, 10 half banded kuhli loach, 3 triple red apistos and 4 otos. Eventually I will have to remove most of the SAE if not all if I decide to keep a shoaling tank. All fish are 2 3/4" and under.
Method you are absolutely right. I can now get free pennywort for life :icon_lol: Hopefully sell some one day ehe
Here is the name of the pennywort, Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides Lam. These are a more delicate plant to be grown submersed because they require high light and co2 which I have. ;) Hope it carpets. Oh yeah and I'm lovin the fact that it carpets really low unlike most pennywort. More like dwarf pennywort.
Mine is sibthorpioides as well and is growing pretty quickly in the emersed section of my paludarium. Cool plant!
I've been wanting one of those but don't have the space. do you have any fish in there?
Not yet. It's in my sig, but I'll have to borrow a decent camera before I can post another picture.
