...to that big aquarium in the sky. :( Yesterday, we lost the Betta that introduced me to this hobby. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/tank-journals-photo-album/103576-29-gallon-biocube-journal.html

Here are some pictures of him before the planted tank:

And after:

We're gonna miss him. :(

Now, the big question. Should be get another one? I'm thinking a baby would be best, but not sure if we should get a male or female. What if I want two?

Also, what's the best way to handle the remains of the betta we lost? I was going to simply introduce him to the Kohler in our bathroom, like most of the fish we've lost, by my wife thinks that's incredibly insensitive. This was a very special fish to her. :) In fact, she would often talk to him, and yes, she is quite sane. :)
Nice looking fellow.

One betta male or female in a tank that size is best.

Or you can try a more peaceful betta sp. like betta imbellis. You can keep a few with this species.

My wild female betta jumped out of a temporary tank recently. lesson learnt, must keep tank completely covered for wild bettas.
RIP Mr Betta, looks like he lived a full life in his awsome looking tank. If it made your wife happy i would def get another.
Where's the best place to get good looking bettas? Or should I simply save one of the poor fellows from the big box pet stores? Might make a nice Christmas gift. :)
i would say save a doomed pet store betta, atless you want something specific.
I'm sorry to hear about your betta. I bet he lived a great life in that beautiful tank.

You could also try aquabid. I've seen so many beautiful bettas and always wanted one of those.
oh no, i'm so sorry! he was such a beautiful betta! i think you should burry him, with a little funeral. i've always done that for my pets, and it's a great way to say goodbye.

i vote going to petco. they have some really nice bettas now, but a lot are unhealthy, and it'd be a good project for your wife to nurse a new baby back to health :)
Aquabid is great if your breeding and want top quality fish but I think you should save a unhappy betta from its doom in a cup from some store.
You know what.. Petco sell some quality bettas in a cup. Maybe Petsmart does too, I haven't checked.

They're $16 each.

For wild bettas, check aquabid but I'd wait till spring for live shipments.

Are these different than the regular bettas they sell?

BTW, I was in Petco the other day and they've upped their fish warranty to 30-days! They also play ocean sound effects in their aquarium department where I am and have much nicer displays and fish more recently.
Petco has VT, CT, DT, DeT, SDeT, HM, and King Bettas.

Which is the coolest?

You'll have to see for yourself. They all have good qualities. Look for brilliant colors, clean uniform symmetrical finage and a good betta personality.

The expensive bettas are the quality ones with interesting fins.

How can I tell if the betta has a good personality? If you stuck me in a cup about four times my size I'd be pretty pissed off. LOL

My favorites are HM and DT bettas, but for halfmoon betta you may end up getting a Super Delta Betta if you don't make him flare completely to examine the tail finnage.

This is my Blue Butterfly HM betta I got from Petco, unfortunately he got sick so now he has really messed up fins and ragged and it won't grow back to when I first got him...

What he looked like when I first got him....

I bury my bettas. My other fish go in the disposal but my bettas get buried.

Sorry for your loss - I have a soft spot for red veils and he was a beauty.

did you mean the garbage disposal? in that case why not just flush them?
