wow, looks awesome! very natural. I can't seem to get moss to grow in my tank, I tie it to the wood and it just dies or floats away...
Yes it is fontanus. It seems to blend in too much with the walls so I am thinking of changing the driftwood over to Flame moss
If you want to try Flame, I can send that with the Taiwan you wanted.
be advised that Taiwan does not grow much differently than Xmas
especially if you plan on trimming it regularly to keep your wall uniform.
personally, I would keep the fissidens like it is, and if you want to
experiment with flame, then tie it to a lava rock for a few Months.
once it fills in, you can move the rock wherever it fits in esthetically.
I do have a little bit of flame moss right now but if you do have a tiny bit extra that would be cool.

I will be trying a Taiwan moss wall on a tank that I have right below this one so I am curious to see the difference between the two.
trust me, I can save you a lot of trouble.
I have Weeping, Taiwan, and Xmas growing on my ropes side by side,
and they look exactly the same after 3 Months completely untrimmed.

I'm convinced these three mosses grow unique based on the tank they're in,
not the moss you use. for example, your Xmas looks more like weeping,
as both my Xmas and weeping grow out and up, not sloped down like yours.
again, it's not the moss, just how your tank manages to host it's growth.

I'm currently experimenting with Willow and Spiky moss to see if I can
get a different growth pattern and texture then those other three.

I suspect Spiky will look the same as the other three, but Willow
is structurally very large and different, almost like a small fern,
so that one will probably make for a more unique wall subject.

If you can wait another Month, I'll post a photo of them on rope
and then you can better decide which one would be wall worthy,
so instead of wasting your time with Taiwan now, I'll send you a
sample of your choosing then, OK?

Hahaha...I was looking at my shrimp tank last night and thinking..."Man, the Christmas moss and the taiwan look very similar now. I know they were different when I started." I think you might be onto something here, spypet
Sure we can do that.

Christmas is Vesicularia and Taiwan is Taxiphyllum I believe. Based on that there has to be differences in their morphology; maybe they are at the microscopic level?????

I haven't had Taiwan before so I am not that familar with it.
One problem with mosses is some people get their names confused, and sell it as something different(Like selling taiwan moss as christmas)
so you may in fact be getting the same thing if you buy two, the only sure way to tll on some is the look at them microscopically.

what do you anchor the moss to for the moss wall?
It is sandwiched between 2 knitting meshes. You can then either sew or staple them together and suction cup to the glass

do you just throw some in between the knitting sheets and let it grow? will it grow out laterally as well as away from the knitting mesh? do you have to trim it to keep it shorter or does it reach a maximum and then go sideways?

i think i may wanna try this project. :)
It takes awhile to poke through the mesh before significant growth occurs. It does grow laterally a little bit but you are best off to cover the entire surface with moss so you dont have gaps. Mine needs to be given a haircut every 2 months or so.

Yes the wall looks great. But more important is why you can't grow moss. What is your set up? What have you used to tie the moss? Which types of moss did you choose? Do you have CO2 or use Excel? We might be able to suggest ways for you to grow moss.

110 gallon, 260 watts PC, thread to tie it down, and I have a bottle of CO2 and a regulator but haven't set it up yet. I'm nervous about CO2 overdoses. The plants are growing quite nicely on their own too. I dose flourish every once in a while. I have two loooong pieces of driftwood I wanted to moss up but I've resorted to anubias since I can't get it to grow on them.
What is the temp in your tank? I know that when my heater spiked up and blew the moss got brown and is just recovering. What moss did you try? Was it green when you got it? Did it have a die back? If you want to try again and work with people here, I can send you a small section of Java moss. Then we can see how you do. If not I would understand. My tank is low tech with fish and I use Excel every so often. I have lost several plant by not having C02 or using fert a lot. I had trouble when I first started growing moss and fissiden. I am now a NUT about the stuff.
