[Fern dern]

I got my moss ball at a big chain pet store and when I notice the water was too warm I put an ice cube to cool it down, then I notice a worm coming out of the ball and cruel up, I got scared and got it out and split it in half.
Does anyone know what it is and if there is more and if so how to kill them.
