Moss and sand??

I was wondering if mosses like java moss or flame moss would grow on sand? I have no soil under this sand. Also, how would you plant baby tears on sand since their roots are pretty small. Can you plant it with the pot? I have white Aqua Terra sand. Thank you!

you know i have a fluval chi as my betta tank with black sand, i jammed two tufts into the sand with nothing and one attached to a small stone.
the one on stone was tore up by corys but the two just jammed in are growing fine.
