Would getting 4 more neon tetras be a bad idea for my tank? How often would I have to do water changes?

Currently have 10g heavily planted tank. I do 20-40% water changes weekly.
2 Dwarf Gouramis, 3 Corydoras, and 6 Neon Tetras

Hmm that is a hard one due to how small the aquarium is. Honestly my advice would be keep an eye on the water parameters to see if they stay stable for a few weeks then maybe add the fish. You are approaching the stock limit with your current stock so it's kind of a 50/50 thing.

How long have you had it set up and doing well? It is a small tank but neons are pretty small and the rest of your fish are smallish as well. So bioload isn't too bad. But I would probably just leave it as it is for a while and see how things go.

I've had this setup for about 3 months now. The tank has been very stable. But I think you're both right. I should just keep it the way it is and add more later.

I don't think the bio-load would be an issue but more the space. Maybe consider upgrading the tank if you have the room. Petco has their $1 gallon sale on now. $20 for a 20 gallon tank. The 20 long is a great size tank that gives a decent amount of swimming space to small schooling fish.

I have 26 neons in a 10g QT. They do not seem crowded. The neons will actually do better with a larger school.

If you don't feed the tank any more, there will not be any more biological load. The extra food you have to add for the four neons is how much more filtration you need. My guess is that this would be good for your tank, as long as you don't overfeed and stay up on water changes.

The only issue I see with your tank is 2x dwarf gourami in a 10g. If they haven't started fighting or breeding, they will, then everything else will be in danger.

Larger tank, more neons, or get rid of a gourami.

Awesome! Yeah I want to get a 20g but that is not an option right now.. And yeah, I am getting rid of 1 dwarf gourami so maybe I'll be able to get a couple more Neons. I love when they're swimming together but 6 is not enough.

If you do get them it will make a big difference in their schooling behavior. I recently went from 6 to 10 black neons and they are a lot more fun to watch in the bigger group. Their color is also much brighter and deeper with 10.
