One of my Amano have come out of hiding almost 2.5 inches long
She dwarfs all my other shrimp
She knows it too
She takes an entire shrimp pellet into the depths of chases off any non oto (ie other shrimp) from the veggies I put in the tank
Will her being that mean hurt my other shrimp
Should I consider her selling him back to my LFS

Put veggies in more than one spot? My larger CRS will chase off smaller ones and juvs. Nothing unusual here. I don't see any reason to get rid of an uber shrimp.

Me, I'm just jealous! I hope some of mine grow that big. My biggest one, Lenny, is about 1.5" long.

I usually put two slices of zuk in the tank, the shrimp go for one, the otos and plecs the other, shrimp get chased off
So the monster knows what piece to goto
I'll post a pic of her when I get home

I've got 5 1 - 1.5 inch Amano's in a 10g with 20 or so juvenile RCS and 30 Platy fry. Just feed more so everyone gets some. My shrimp simply eat any flake they can catch and munch on algae the rest of the time. I hope mine get that big!! I'm growin them out hoping for size like that to add to my 75g with Angels and 4 other Amano's.

If you dose iron when you feed then it'll make the amanos go crazy for a bit. Dwarf shrimp aren't affected at all but amanos swim around and leave the food alone for some minutes. I have no idea why but it works to deter them.

Put her on the grill next time you grill up some burgers, add some Worcestershire sauce... all yum. Maybe ketchup too.

Maybe she's one of those shrimp that get like a foot long; they're mean as all get out and look like amano shrimp when they are young.

Edit: Macrobrachium rosenbergii maybe?

The biggest amano shrimp I have seen was more than 3 inches at the Hong Kong fish street. I couldn't believe my eyes, and yes, it was an amano shrimp.
